The Stage 32 Videos: Environmental Protection

Last of the Wild

Last of the Wild follows adventurer Fredrik Sträng together with actor Kristofer Hivju as they explore how Whanganui River became the first river in the world to be granted legal personhood status. The news was met with tears — it reflected over 160 years of fighting for recognition of the rights of the river. Only 23 % of wilderness remains on earth. Due to human impact, it may soon be gone. Can granting mountains, forests, and rivers legal personhood push companies, legislators, and governments to protect the last of the wild? As President Lyndon B. Johnson said: "We must leave future generations a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning." Story by Fredrik Sträng Production Von Film
